Project Milestones

State-of-the-art National Technology for Health, Science and Industry.

The RA-10 Project was launched in 2010. The design phase of the multipurpose reactor involved more than one million man-hours and the preparation of over 10,000 technical documents. Civil construction was completed in early 2024. Currently, pre-operational testing is underway in preparation for the reactor’s startup.

2014
  • Construction License granted by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority.
2016
  • Start of the training and licensing program for professionals and technicians who will be the reactor operating staff.

  • The Provincial Agency for Sustainable Development (OPDS) granted the Certificate of Environmental Suitability.

  • March: civil works commenced at the Ezeiza Atomic Center.

2018
  • Reactor Pool Assembly. This milestone marked the beginning of the supply and installation of the facility’s major components.
2019
  • February: Assembly of the Primary Cooling System Decay Tank.

  • July: Assembly of the Service Pool.

2020
  • October: Assembly of the **Primary Cooling Circuit Pumps* and Heat Exchangers.
2021/2022
  • Work continued under strict COVID-19 safety protocols.
2023
  • Inauguration of the new electrical substation, increasing the power supply capacity of the Ezeiza Atomic Center.
2024
  • The operators obtained their individual licenses and are currently undergoing training to obtain the specific licenses required for the reactor commissioning activities.

  • February: Completion of the Reflector Tank construction at INVAP's workshops in San Carlos de Bariloche.

  • March: Completion of civil works for the four buildings.

  • August: Reflector Tank Assembly.

2025
  • In January, the first pump in the primary cooling system was put into operation. Comprehensive tests were initiated to verify the performance of the hydraulic system and its compliance with design and safety parameters, a prerequisite for the reactor’s startup.

  • Finalization of the core configuration using dummy fuel elements (i.e., non-uranium elements with the geometry and layout of the final core). This allowed the start of the cold tests to verify the performance of the cooling system.

2026
  • Startup of the primary cooling system pumps of the RA-10 Reactor.

  • Initiation of 19 pre-commissioning tests, including the operation of the main pumps of the secondary system.
