The engraving technique
Etching
Chalcographic technique of indirect incision. The process consists of extending a protective varnish over a metal plate and drawing an image with a pen nib, while raising the varnish and leaving the metal uncovered at the same time. Afterwards, the plate is given a mordant bath (with nitric acid, hydrochloric acid or iron perchloride, according to the type of metal) which will corrode the uncovered traces, producing an incision able to receive the impression ink.
Collagraph
Contemporary printing technique that allows multiple varieties of materials in the matrix (cardboard, paper, plastic, etc), which are covered with synthetic resins that provide them with resistance and make them impermeable. The image is produced by addition of different elements to the base of the matrix whose qualities in texture are taken to the paper during the printmaking. The inking and printing can be combined with the methods of debossing and embossing.
Embossing
Process of print engraving in which the ink is applied over the protruding areas of the matrix, using rollers and cleaning the hollow parts. The printing can be created manually - by frottage - or using the press.
