Yrigoyen began his second presidency with 61% of the vote, a result that conferred legitimacy to his office and gave him unprecedented political strength, as well as having a majority in the Legislative Branch. Nevertheless, the president’s growing personalism and isolation, combined with his policy of interventions on the provinces and the increasing political opposition gradually undermined his government.

Social conflict also intensified during this period, as the unionized labor sector grew stronger and the number of strikes increased. In this context, the press fueled the delegitimization of the president, while discontent within the Armed Forces continued to rise. Agustín Pedro Justo, former Minister of War under president Alvear, led the first coup attempts. However, he was not the one to carry out the first State coup of the 20th Century in Argentina, but rather General José Félix Uriburu, who led the overthrow of the government on the morning of September 6, 1930.
